First Defense Nasal Screens

I first saw the First Defense Nasal Screens on “Shark Tank” which is one of my favorite shows. I was intrigued by the concept of being able to cover the nostrils and breathe filtered air without having to wear a mask.

I hate wearing masks because everyone stares at you when you are wearing a mask. Unfortunately, when I was at my sickest, I had become so sensitive to smells some people would consider normal… like car exhaust, perfume and dryer sheets… that wearing a mask was becoming my only option for going out of my house.

I bought a couple of weeks supply of them and used them to go through papers, go to friend's houses, go for walks and drive around in my car.

They do help. They do not keep mold spores and fragrances off clothing or out of your hair… so when you are done dealing with the contaminated place or thing you are dealing with… you do have to take a shower and wash your clothing.

If you are suffering from Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and you can train yourself to breathe only through your nose. These will help. They must be applied correctly. The proper placement is demonstrated in the following video:

If you are extremely conscious of people looking at you funny. These screens are not invisible. They tend to look a little strange because they are skin colored and so they make your nose look like it has no nostrils. They might be more attractive or less conspicuous if they had some black spots on them to mimic our nostrils.

Still, if you need something to help you avoid mold and chemical hits and you don't want to wear a mask. These are definitely an viable option.

  1. What is a good regular mask for mold & chemicals? What did you use? Now that wearing masks is mandated where I live, it’s actually less weird to wear a mask than to wear a nasal screen.

    1. I used to have an icanbreathe mask – but it’s not really for mold. More for chemicals. Mycotoxins are the part of mold that make people really sick and I don’t think any of these cloth masks would do anything against mycotoxins. They are even too small for a HEPA filter. Viruses are too small for these masks too. It’s all optics and control
