GMO or Not?

A few months ago, I saw this image with instructions on how to identify GMO produce
Organic or GMO

How do we find out if GMO is in our other foods other than our produce?

Labeling would be a good start. If companies like Kellogg's and Campbells had to tell people whether they are using genetically modified foods, maybe they would make better choices!

Companies opposing GMO labeling

The day after the November, 2012 election, a friend of mine from California posted this on a  facebook group:

“So sorry that California did not deliver on Prop 37… especially considering how much campaigning there was here… literally, it was everywhere… people on corners, passing out flyers, calling our cell phones… the LA Times called it “cult-like” support… It was not perfect, but it was a good start. If we are ever to get poisons, including molds, disclosed, tonight was the night to really blow that door wide open… Considering how long it took Ralph Nader to even begin it, so many years ago, I guess I should not be too surprised. I am sad that the corporate powers won out… but we will not give up!!”

There is a lot of great information in this article: How to Avoid Dangerous Genetically Modified Foods

Amazing that we have been consuming genetically modified food since 1996 and this is just becoming a highly publicized topic 16 years after this monstrosity started.

What is Genetically Modified Food?

The Institute for Responsible Technology has a full list of foods that may contain GM ingredients on their website.

The Institute for Responsible Technology claims to me the most comprehensive source of GMO health risk information on the web and they state that even non food items cosmetics, soaps, detergents, shampoos and bubble bath.

For myself and my family, I try to buy organic whenever possible. I like to avoid boxed food and canned food whenever possible. I don't eat those foods myself, but my family has to choose for themselves what to eat and what not to eat.

It's sad that we have to protect ourselves against greedy corporations like Monsanto and our government would rather side with the corporations than the people.
